guidelines for yoga practice

  1. The studio is a cell-free zone. Please be sure to turn off phones and pagers when entering the building.

  2. Please be respectful of fellow students and arrive for class early enough to settle in before the start of class.

  3. Please refrain from wearing cologne or strong scents as some students are sensitive.

  4. Practice on an empty stomach. Allow two to three hours after a heavy meal. Small amount of fruit up to an hour before class.

  5. Wear comfortable clothing. Tights and leotards are nice because they allow your teacher to see proper body alignment. Tank tops or tighter fitting shirts prevent distraction when performing inverted poses.

  6. Yoga is always practiced in bare feet. Use of a sticky mat prevents the hands and feet from slipping while performing asana (postures).

  7. Never hold your breath or strain to hold a posture. If you’re struggling with your breath, you may need to modify your practice.

  8. Breathe through the nose with the mouth closed.

  9. Inhale when expanding the body and lifting up.
Exhale when bending forward and twisting.

  10. The studio is equipped with the various props needed for a yoga class. The use of these aids is to adapt the posture for your particular body rather than adapting your body to fit the posture.

  11. Because most classes have students with varying levels of experience many directions are given to meet the needs of all students. It’s important to use only the instructions that are appropriate for you.

  12. Most important, remember that this is your yoga practice and to always listen to your body. If you feel fatigue during class respect this feedback and feel free to rest in Child’s Pose or Sarvasana.
